# Data Not Populating: Mac Interactive App (XMI)

What to check, step by step, when Flowace isn’t tracking or no data is showing.

| Item | Details |
| ---- | ---- |
| App | Mac Interactive App (XMI) |
| Platform | macOS |
| Visible to the user | Yes. The Flowace icon is in the menu bar. |
| Signs in with | Workspace address, email and password. |
| Where to find it | Terminal, System Settings › Privacy & Security |

Use this guide when the Interactive App on a Mac isn’t tracking, or no data is showing. Work top to bottom: check that the app is **installed**, then **running**, then **logged in**. Most issues are fixed by Level 3.
---

### Start here: three questions

Ask these three questions, in this order.

| Question | Go to |
| ---- | ---- |
| Is it installed? | Level 1 |
| Is it running? | Level 2 |
| Is the user logged in? | Level 3 |

If all three are yes but there is still no data, go to Level 4 (permissions and sync) and then Advanced.
---

### Names to look for

The app shows under different names in Activity Monitor, Login Items and process lists. Look for any of these.

| Where you look | What to look for |
| ---- | ---- |
| App name | Flowace |
| Activity Monitor / process list | Flowace, Flowace Helper |
| Login Items / “Allow in the Background” | Flowace Technologies Pvt Ltd |
| Developer / publisher signature | Flowace Technologies Pvt Ltd |

---

### Level 1: Verify it’s installed

Goal: confirm the app files are on the computer.
* **Easy way:** open **Finder › Applications** and look for **Flowace**.
* **Command:** Open the **Terminal app**, paste the command, then press Enter.
```
ls -l /Applications/Flowace.app
```
If it lists the folder, it’s installed. “No such file or directory” means it’s not installed.

||| If app is not installed: Install it first (see the Installation Guide). Don’t go further until the files are present.

---

### Level 2: Verify it’s running

Installed isn’t the same as running. Confirm the app is active right now.
* **Easy way:** look at the **menu bar** for the **Flowace** icon. No icon means it’s not running.
* **Commands (Terminal):**
```
pgrep -lf Flowace
```
Lists the running Flowace process. Nothing printed means it’s not running.
```
launchctl list | grep -i flowace
```
Confirms the auto-restart agent is loaded.
* To start it: open Flowace from Applications.

||| If it’s installed but won’t stay running: The quickest first fix is to restart the computer once. The app is set to start automatically on boot.

---

### Level 3: Verify the user is logged in

This is the most common reason for “no data” when the app is installed and running.
* Open Flowace (menu-bar icon).
* You should see **“You’re in Work mode”.** If you see the **login screen** instead, the user is logged out, and that’s why there’s no data.
* **Fix:** log in with the three details:
  * Workspace: <https://.flowace.in>
  * Email and Password (use Forget Password if needed)
* **Also check the mode.** If it says **Privacy mode**, tracking is paused on purpose. Click Move to Work mode.
* On Mac, the menu-bar icon is “on” in Work mode and “off” in Privacy mode. It’s a quick visual check.
---

### Level 4: Permissions and data sync

Reach here only if it’s installed, running, and logged in, but data is still thin or missing.

**Mac permissions**
If permissions are off, Flowace records empty “No Permission” entries instead of real activity.
* Go to **System Settings › Privacy & Security** and confirm these are ON for the app (Flowace):
* **Screen Recording** (if listed)
* **Accessibility**
* **Input Monitoring** (if listed)
* You can re-trigger the prompt. In the **Grant Required Permissions** box, click **Quit & Reopen Flowace** after turning the switches on.

**Confirm data is syncing**
* Leave the computer on and in use for about 5 minutes.
* Open your Flowace dashboard and find the user.
* You should see fresh activity and screenshots arriving.
* Still nothing after 5 minutes? Re-check the login and permissions, then move to Advanced.
---

### Advanced: logs, restart, reinstall and support
When the basic levels didn’t fix it. Share the log output with support when you write in.

**Read the logs**
Use the [Report Issue](https://help.flowace.ai/en/article/mac-error-reporting-troubleshooting-143pcy6/) option in the Flowace menu-bar menu. It uploads the logs for you.

**Force a restart**
* Quit Flowace from the menu bar, then reopen it from Applications.
* When in doubt, reboot the computer. The app is set to start automatically on boot.

**Reinstall (last resort)**
Uninstall first, then run the install again from the Installation Guide.
```
bash ~/.local/flowace-uninstall.sh
```
* Uninstalling does not remove the Privacy & Security permissions. If you’re reinstalling clean, clear them by hand in System Settings.

**When to write to support**
Write to support@flowace.ai with the logs, your workspace address and the macOS version if:
* Data still doesn’t appear after login and permissions are confirmed on.
* The install or uninstall command errors out and re-running doesn’t help.
* You see repeated “No Permission” entries on the dashboard that won’t clear after fixing permissions.
---

### Reading command output: what good and bad look like

Match what you see to the examples. **Copy a command, paste it into the Terminal app, press Enter**. A line starting with $ is what you type. The lines under it are what the computer prints back.

**Is it installed?**
```
$ ls -l /Applications/Flowace.appdrwxr-xr-x@ 3 user admin 96 … /Applications/Flowace.app
```
**Good:** It printed a line, so it’s installed.
```
$ ls -l /Applications/Flowace.appls: /Applications/Flowace.app: No such file or directory
```
**Not good:** “No such file or directory” means it’s not installed. Install it.

**Is it running?**
```
$ pgrep -lf Flowace2345 /Applications/Flowace.app/Contents/MacOS/Flowace -g
```
**Good:** A line with a number means it’s running. The number, 2345, is just its process ID.
```
$ pgrep -lf Flowace
$
```
**Not good:** Nothing printed, straight back to a new $ line, means it’s not running. Open the app.
```
$ launchctl list | grep -i flowace
- 0 com.flowace.restart
```
**Good:** A line ending in com.flowace.restart means the keep-alive is set up. The 0 in the middle means it last exited cleanly.
```
$ launchctl list | grep -i flowace
$
```
Not good: Nothing means the helper isn’t loaded. Reinstall, or write to support@flowace.ai.
