# Set Idle Alert for the Desktop App

Warn selected employees with a pop-up before their time is marked idle.

The **idle alert** is a pop-up in the desktop app. When it is turned on for an employee, they are notified 1 minute before the idle threshold is reached. If they are at the screen and interact with the pop-up, the idle threshold is not reached and their time stays active.

The idle alert is available **only on the interactive desktop app.** It is never supported on the silent app.

You decide who gets the alert. Turn it on for a few employees, depending on the nature of their work.

* **Give a warning first.** Let an employee know that they are about to move into idle mode.
* **Fit the work.** Turn it on for roles where short breaks in activity are common, such as reading, calls or reviews.

### How to turn on the idle alert

**Steps:**

1. **Open Admin Settings > Permissions.** Click your profile picture at the top right and select Admin Settings.
2. **Open Desktop App.** In the left menu, click Permissions, then select Desktop App.
3. **Find the employee**. Type a name, email or ID in Search By Name/Email/Id, or scroll the list.
4. **Turn on Idle Alert.** In the Idle Alert On/Off column, switch the toggle on for that employee.
5. **Save the row.** Click SAVE on that employee’s row.
