# Set Up Work Categories

${youtube}[How to Create a Work Category and Rate Apps Faster](JvTD8z7391g)
---

Group apps and websites by type of work and rate them in one step.

| Item | Details |
| ---- | ---- |
| Feature area | Productivity Insights |
| Plan | Standard plans and above |
| Who can set it up | Admins |
| Where to find it | Admin Settings › Work Policies › Work Category |

A work category groups similar apps and websites, such as Communication. Each category has a Name, a Colour and a Productivity Rating. When you choose a category for an app or website, it takes the category’s rating.
---

### When to use this setting
* **Rate similar apps together.** Give Google Meet, Slack and Microsoft Teams the same category and rating.
* **Keep reports consistent.** Categories give reports a common way to group time.
* **Save effort.** Choose a category instead of setting each rating by hand.
---

### Example Work Category

All values are examples. Set them to suit your company policy.
| Field | Example value |
| ---- | ---- |
| Name | Communication |
| Colour | Green |
| Productivity Rating | Productive |
| Apps & Websites | Google Meet, Slack, Microsoft Teams |

---

### How categories and ratings work together

A category sets the rating on a row. If the row already has a rating, the category replaces it. You can still edit the rating afterwards.

| Action | Result |
| ---- | ---- |
| Choose a category on a row | The row takes the category’s rating. |
| Edit a row’s rating later | Only that row changes. |
| Edit a category’s rating later | Apps and websites keep the rating they have. The change affects future selections. |
---

### Recommended settings

| Decision | Recommendation |
| ---- | ---- |
| Category names | Use clear work types, such as Communication or Design |
| Colours | Use a different colour for each category. |
| Rating | Choose the rating most apps in that category should have. |
---

### Common situations

| Situation | What it means | What to do |
| ---- | ---- | ---- |
| Rating changed after choosing a category | The row’s rating was edited by hand. | Edit it again or reselect the category. |
| Category rating edited, apps unchanged | Existing apps keep their rating. | Reselect the category on those rows. |
| Category is not listed | It has not been created yet. | Create it under Work Category |

---

### Good to know
